Contemporanio: the matt-finish display pedestal
A slender column, 100 centimetres tall with a 35 cm plate and a matt finish. The Contemporanio is the model we recommend when the lighting matters as much as the work.
The finish is the real subject here. Under directional light — an adjustable spot, a gallery track, a raking beam — a satin surface throws back reflections that catch the eye at pedestal level instead of letting it travel up to the piece. Matt removes that interference. It is a detail you cannot see until you have seen it, and cannot ignore afterwards.
The 35-centimetre section, slightly slimmer than the Solitaire, gives the column a more pronounced lift. The ratio of height to width approaches three to one, a proportion that lightens the support visually without taking anything from its stability.
- Slender format: 100 cm tall with a 35 cm plate
- Matt finish, with no stray reflections under directional lighting
- Robust steel, safe working load up to 50 kg
- Black or white — two exhibition moods
- Built for intensive use in galleries and museums
- Designed and made in France

Who this model is for
Collectors and private buyers
For a carefully considered interior where the lighting has been thought through. The matt finish is what separates a considered presentation from simply putting something up high.
Artists and sculptors
The model to choose for photographing work: matt does not throw back flash or softbox, which avoids retouching and gives images you can use directly in a portfolio or on a website.
Museums, galleries and art centres
Designed for spaces open to the public: stable, reflection-free under museum lighting, and durable despite handling. The premium positioning stays affordable for equipping in series.
Councils and public institutions
For a permanent exhibition or a heritage space, the matt finish and the steel guarantee a considered presentation that does not date. Quotations on request.
Making the most of a matt finish
Place the light source about 30 degrees above the horizontal and slightly to one side. On a matt pedestal that angle lights the work without creating a halo on the support; on a gloss pedestal it would do precisely the opposite. It is the arrangement used in most exhibition spaces.
Matt black suits pale pieces — plaster, stone, white ceramic — whose outline it strengthens. White serves bronzes and dark patinas better. Our guide to sizing a sculpture pedestal covers the related question of height.
Frequently asked questions
Why choose a matt finish rather than gloss?
Because in an exhibition the pedestal should not catch the light. Matt absorbs reflections and lets the eye go straight to the work, particularly under directional lighting.
Is a matt finish fragile?
No. It shows fingerprints far less than a gloss surface and stands up to the repeated handling that professional use involves.
How does this differ from the Solitaire pedestal?
Three centimetres less on the plate, a more pronounced lift and a matt finish. The Solitaire offers a wider bearing surface, the Contemporanio a slimmer silhouette.
Is it available in matching multiples?
Yes, for equipping in series. Contact us for a volume quotation if you are fitting out a whole room.
A steel display stand whose finish holds up
The Contemporanio is a metal sculpture support whose matt finish is its main asset — and that finish, applied to steel, does not flake as a varnish on wood does. A gallery plinth has to stay immaculate after dozens of installations: metal is what makes that possible.
Steel is endlessly recyclable with no loss of quality, and our pedestals are made in France.

MANUFACTURING TIMES
A 100 cm column with a 35 cm top and a matt finish, made in France. The Contemporanio is one of our standard models and remains available from stock.
For a different configuration — specific heights, a particular finish, a format outside the range — we also build customised pedestals, with a manufacturing time of 4 to 6 weeks depending on the complexity of the project.
DELIVERY
Its 20 kg come from the section of the column, which gives it stability under a heavy piece. The matt finish is protected with particular care during packing, since it is what gives the model its value.
Shipping is handled by DPD, within 3 to 5 working days of dispatch. Express delivery via Chronopost remains available on request, for a private view or an exhibition with a fixed date.
